Preparatory to the design phase, relating to the definition of a puzzle (instead of a hospital

Oggetto specifico del concorso era la progettazione e realizzazione, mediante procedure di project financing, di quattro ospedali da costruire nella regione toscana e, più precisamente nelle province di Massa, Lucca, Pistoia e Prato. The specific object of the competition was the design and construction, through project financing procedures, of four hospitals to be built in the Tuscany region and, more precisely, in the provinces of Massa, Lucca, Pistoia and Prato. The competition required the definition of a unitary model adaptable to different territorial contexts but which benefited from the economy of scale of four planned works. On these assumptions, research was developed, preparatory to the design phase, relating to the definition of a puzzle (instead of a hospital) which consists in the proposal of a system of components which, like the elements of a 'Meccano', are capable to compose into one range of different morphological combinations. The objective is to be able to formulate a common lexicon to create four hospital complexes with maximum economy of scale but without precluding the autonomy of the architectural configurations necessary for different users and territorial realities.

The CSPE subsequently developed the design application of this Model in the specific context of the Pistoia district.
