the project uses processes linked to prefabrication
The new engineering university campus is the result of a tender competition. The plan includes three new blocks: the Faculty headquarters with the Presidency, the library and the classrooms; the two mirrored buildings of the Departments of Mechanics and Computer Science and of Materials Science;
the core of heavy laboratories and technological plants.
Carried out with very low costs and resources, the project uses processes linked to prefabrication, consolidated in the regional production zone of Emilia Romagna. Thus, if on the one hand, the construction procedures of the components of the primary structure are linked to the industrialization processes, the connecting elements reveal an almost artisanal interest in the design of unique pieces.
However, prefabrication does not exclusively mean carrying out the desired industrialization of the construction site, but allowing further growth of the construction process which, from a global perspective, allows for the flexible planning of building structures: an approach of great innovative value whose future potential remains open.
