The redefinition of the environmental and functional quality of a public space
The problem of car park construction is especially critical in cities of art where it becomes essential to design the intervention in full respect of significant pre-existing elements.
An example in which this complex problem has been resolved successfully is the project for the construction of the new public car park in the Piazza for the Florence Train Station.
The design work developed the redefinition of the environmental and functional quality of a public space. The achievement of this objective was also constrained by the need to respect the aesthetics of the square designed by the architect. Michelucci.
- The very tight execution times and the caution required for such a complex construction site area found a solution in the use of prefabricated reinforced concrete components. In almost all of the underground part, and in avoiding the storage of materials on site by exploiting the area of the dead tracks of the railway network.
The solution adopted satisfies the requirements connected to the reorganization of city mobility and the re-functionalization of the Santa Maria Novella station.
