New Maternity and Pediatric Hospital Greater Bologna

The intent of the project is to intervene in the complex "machine" of existing buildings with a dual objective: on the one hand to satisfy the client's requests in functional terms and service efficiency, on the other, to introduce an element of architectural discontinuity in the set of hospital architectural landscapes. This discontinuity bases its reasons on the particular type of hospital that is added to the existing complex.

The set of Obstetric-Gynecological and Pediatric services involves very particular pathologies and categories of patients. More specifically, it seems to us that a hospital that is the place for newborns should take on, in its architecture, the character of a place of memory, a place where the first wonderful act of entry into life takes place and where a family is enriched with a new component. A salient event in the life of those involved which we believe should explain, even in architecture, the importance of the event and the celebratory and lasting characteristics that befit it.
