Revitlization of the former railway area called “Borgo Verde”

The intervention area with services, facilities, management structures, has a significant size of about 2 hectares and since 1968 has constituted a productive reference for the urban center of Pontassieve.

The project Masterplan aims to reconstruct the functional and road connections of the area called Borgo Verde, redevelop the public spaces and facilities to regenerate the relationship between the railway and the city desired by the community.

The design matrix identifies a grid of 5.20x5.20 mt. on which the areas of the specific zones to be allocated to the different functions have been articulated in a more flexible way. These areas have been studied to be able to guarantee a high degree of flexibility in order to satisfy various needs on the part of the different implementing bodies that will deal with the subsequent levels of design, and which makes the overlap between new buildings and underlying parking lots compatible.

Particular attention is paid to defining the qualities of the system of public spaces (green and built) and of the collective use equipment, interpreted as a new infrastructure to order and regenerate the space of well-being and social life.

In particular, four characterizing elements are identified:

- The backbone of collective services with the renovated station square and parking lots;

- The attractive space with the garden, the park of sociality and events;

- The space and the park of well-being with the house of health;

- The space for the school complex.
